Abstract：Interpersonal grammatical metaphor, which includes metaphor of mood and metaphor of modality, is an important means to realize the interpersonal function of language. This paper analyzes interpersonal metaphors contained in the discourses of Jane and Rochester in Jane Eyre using the theory of interpersonal grammatical metaphor and analyzes the image and character of the hero and heroine: Rochester is arrogant, suspicious and short-tempered while Jane is kind, honest, open-minded, intelligent, and determined to pursue independence and equality. The thesis provides another perspective in appreciating Jane Eyre.
